Digging through the Goalball UK archives – GB Trophy TourTalent Camp - GB Trophy Tour.

Each week we are digging through the Goalball UK archives to look back at some of our favourite memories from the sport from years gone by.

This week we are remembering the GB Trophy Tour.

In October 2016, both the GB senior teams were in action at the IBSA European B Championships in Portugal, with the Men finishing in 2nd place and the Women in 1st place. Follow this link to take a trip down memory lane!

To personally thank the #GoalballFamily for their incredible support, a GB Trophy Tour was arranged. This provided club players with the opportunity to ask GB players and coaches about their experiences as well as having their photos taken with the impressive trophies.

The first stop on the tour was Norfolk and Norwich Goalball Club where Dan Roper and Laura Perry joined in with their regular Thursday night training session – offering the players lots of top tips.

The next stop was West Yorkshire with Caleb Nanevie and Antonia Bunyan this time accompanying the trophies.

It was then on to Croysutt Warriors with Faye Dale and Caleb Nanevie in attendance.

Other club sessions as part of the GB Trophy Tour included Beacon Bullets, New College Worcester and Nottinghamshire Sheriffs.

The trophies also visited the annual Goalball UK Talent Camp at RNC in February 2017. They proved to be a great inspiration to many of the young players in attendance who are now themselves part of the Goalball UK Talent or GB senior squads.

Hopefully, 2021 will be another successful year for both the Men’s and the Women’s GB senior teams (at their respective European Championships) and we will therefore be able to arrange a similar GB Trophy Tour. For the time being though, we are hosting some ‘Time Out’ sessions on Zoom with GB players when you will be able to listen to their ‘goalball stories’ and ask them questions.
