The annual Disability Sport Yorkshire awards were held at Elland Road in Leeds on Friday 12th September and Goalball was well represented both in terms of nominations and attendees on the night.

The annual Disability Sport Yorkshire awards Brittany Stead collected the Young Sportswoman of the Year award in recognition of her achievements over the past 18 months. Whilst at school, Brittany played goalball for Moor End, but she now trains just about every day of the week, with just about every goalball club in the county!

She started the 2012/13 season playing at Novice Level, before progressing to Intermediate Level, and then made her debut at Elite Level last season.

Unfortunately a wrist injury and then an eye operation prevented her from playing for the final few months of the 2013/14 season but she continued to attend training sessions and tournaments to support her team mates.

In April 2013, she attended the Goalball UK Talent ID Day. Following this she was invited to a GB Women’s training camp and was then selected to play in an international tournament in Poland (June 2013). She has been a regular member of the squad ever since and has played in tournaments in Sweden (August 2013), Hungary (October 2013) and Italy (March 2014) as well as the European Championships in Turkey (November 2013).

Brittany Stead collected the Young Sportswoman of the Year award Brittany is an excellent role model. In February 2013 she completed her Goalball School Leaders award and has since helped out at a variety of events including the Goalball UK Junior Talent Camp plus the Step in to Sport Conference at Newsome High School in Huddersfield that she attended as a Young Athlete Mentor. She has also been busy fundraising for the GB Women’s squad.
