Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use our online platforms so the Goalball Family can get to know each other a bit better ahead of getting back on the court and playing our sport again.
This week we caught up with Paddy Harmer.
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for Winchester Goalball Club.
How did you discover goalball?
I was introduced via a taster day at Winchester Goalball Club that was organised by Actionnaires, way back in 2013.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I don’t really listen to anything specific before a tournament, but I do like to listen to Rock music.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
No, I just like to make sure I warmed up so I don’t suffer later on.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
If I’m away on a tournament, then we do look for a Taco Bell before we head off home. Normal training days are always finished off with a jacket potato with cheese & beans!
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
I would have to say Adam Knott, as he has been my coach since the very beginning. He is a very inspirational person and has motivated me to be the best that I can.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I’m learning to play guitar and keyboard. I also like to create my own music compositions on my computer.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I would really like to visit the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, as I’m really interested in space travel.
