Steve running at a parkrun in Kraków, Poland. Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!

We want to use our online platforms so the Goalball Family can get to know each other a bit better ahead of getting back on the court and playing our sport again!

This week we caught up with Steve Cox.

What is your role at Goalball UK?
Operations Manager & Safeguarding Lead Officer.

How did you discover goalball?

Applying for the role of Workforce Development Officer – before then, like most people, I had not heard of the sport – Sorry 😬.

Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before an event to get in the mood?

Before a running race (anything from 5km to Marathon), I like to listen to some good old classic dance anthems from the 80s through to the early 2000s.

Do you have any pre-event superstitions or rituals?

I’m not really a superstitious person, so I don’t have any pre-race superstitions. Rituals though, I do insist on a good chicken pizza the night before a race!

Do you have a favourite post-event meal?

Food, just food and lots of it! 🙂

Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?

Running. travelling and running! I regularly combine travelling and running by doing some ‘parkrun tourism’ having ran parkruns in the USA, Italy, and Poland, as well as numerous throughout the UK!

Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?

On my bucket list of places to visit – the 7 continents of the world. I need to visit South America and Antarctica to complete my list, Antarctica might be big ask but…… Why?- It is a big world out there and I would like to experience as much of it as I can, while I can!
