Each week we are going to be saying “Hello” to another organisation in the VI world to learn more about who they are and what they do.

This week, we are chatting to Hannah Elmes who is the Digital Marketing Officer at New College Worcester (NCW).

So, Hi Hannah, please can you tell us all about NCW:

NCW is a national residential school for young people aged 11-19 who are blind or vision impaired. At NCW it is our aim to ensure there are no barriers to success for any child with a vision impairment. The combination of tailored learning, extra-curricular experiences and the immense support offered by staff and peers means that every child has the opportunity to achieve their very best potential!

In addition to following the National Curriculum, we incorporate a Specialist VI Curriculum in which students learn and refine skills such as Braille, Access Technology, Independent Living Skills and Mobility – all things which ensure the development of independent young people.

And you have a goalball team of course!

Yes, goalball is taught within PE and is also an after school and weekend activity for students of all ages. We participate in the Goalball UK National Leagues and, over the years, many of our students have gone on to represent Great Britain.

Do you have any Family Days coming up for potential students and their parents/carers?

Yes, we have a free virtual Family Day on Monday 3rd May (10.30am to 3pm) which will include some pre-recorded videos with students and staff, as well as live bookable sessions. These include meeting and chatting to key members of staff such as our Principal, SENCo and House Parents from the residential houses. Here is the booking form.

We have really missed meeting lots of new and prospective families over the last year, as we have not been able to run a number of our usual events. However, we recently produced a virtual Family Day video which gives families a flavour of what they can expect at one of our Family Day events.

How can we find out more information?
