Goalball UK has announced a restructuring of its team, creating three new posts in line with its new strategic plan, “Empowering Our People.” The reorganisation aims to strengthen the national governing body’s core functions and support its mission of growing the sport for blind and partially sighted people across the UK.

New Appointments

The new roles and the individuals appointed to them are as follows:

  • Faye Dale-Cook, Talent and Inclusion Director & Deputy CEO
  • Alex Bunney, Development and Learning Director
  • Gary Fraser, Performance Director (Home Nations responsibility)

John Grosvenor, Chair commented:

‘Faye, Gary and Alex will be responsible for key areas outlined in the new strategy, including developing players and the workforce, improving the quality of experiences for participants, and raising the overall profile of the sport. Their appointments reflect our focus on nurturing talent, ensuring efficient operations, and increasing participation at all levels. In addition to this we are presently in the process of recruiting a new development officer to support the strategy.’

Goalball UK’s new strategy, launched in February, is focused on six core pillars:

  • Growing and developing players
  • Growing and developing the workforce
  • Providing high-quality experiences
  • Creating partnerships
  • Improving organisational health
  • Raising awareness of the sport

Mark Winder, CEO said: ‘The new appointments are a direct result of this strategic shift, which seeks to put the goalball community at the heart of everything we do.

The restructuring follows a year of significant change for Goalball UK, which saw new staff and a renewed focus on community engagement. The 2024 annual report highlighted successes in expanding community outreach and strengthening its commitment to inclusivity.’

The new roles are expected to provide the necessary leadership and support to achieve the goals of the “Empowering Our People” strategy and continue the sport’s growth in the UK.
