Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use our online platforms so the Goalball Family can get to know each other a bit better ahead of getting back on the court and playing our sport again!
This week we caught up with Abdul Eneser!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for RNC.
How did you discover goalball?
I went to a taster session (delivered by Lancashire Lions) at the Eithad Campus in Manchester with my school, but I didn’t start playing properly though until I started studying at RNC.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I like pop music – especially with a bit of a country vibe! My favourite song is ‘One thing’ by One Direction.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
It’s usually an early start for a tournament so I make sure that I have all my kit ready the night before. That way, in the morning, I can then concentrate on having a good breakfast to provide me with lots of energy for the games. Before each game we usually have a team hug for extra energy!
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
McDonalds! I like a double cheeseburger and a McFlurry.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
During my time at RNC I have been fortunate to train and play with lots of great players like Joe Roper and Antonia Bunyan.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I enjoy running but my main hobby is reading. I like motivational, non-fiction books. Things like ‘Power hour’ by Adrienne Herbert or ‘First day of my life’ by Lisa Williamson.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I’d really like to go to South America – to Argentina and Brazil. As I’m learning French at the moment, I’d also like to go to France. Places I’ve been to before include Tunisia and Turkey.
