Bobbie-Jack alongside his Winchester teammates and coachesEach Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!

We want to use our online platforms so the Goalball Family can get to know each other a bit better ahead of getting back on the court and playing our sport again.

This week we caught up with Bobbie-Jack Spencer-Sallis.

What club do you play for or coach?

I play for Winchester Goalball Club

How did you discover goalball?

I discovered goalball when I went to the National Paralympic day and tried out different Paralympic sports. I saw Goalball UK in a tryout area and as soon as I tried it, I loved it! We were told our nearest club was in Winchester and could not believe I had a goalball club so close! It has been 8 years now of playing goalball and my love for the sport has grown, and I never want to leave!

Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?

Not really, but sometimes I do listen to Alan Walker and Marshmello a lot because I love their drop beats on their music.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?

Not really, no.

Do you have a favourite post-match meal?

Yes, a delicious meal deal from the shops on the way to a tournament that the parents treat me with, you cannot beat a southern fried chicken wrap!

Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?

Jack Peters from Croysutt Warriors. He is strong, amazing and he never gives up. One day I hope to be just like him.

Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?

Outside of goalball I enjoy playing video games on my Xbox. I also love to play football with my friends, this is mainly at school at break and lunch time. However, I try to have the time to play with them out of school such as on the weekends.

Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?

My bucket list is to visit the entire world just because I love going on planes! I really want to visit New York, I have a school residential booked to visit this year which, unfortunately, due to our current situation looks unlikely. I would also love to visit the Paralympics in another country after watching the 2012 Paralympics here in the UK.
