Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use this opportunity where we have a bit more time on our hands to get to know you all a little bit better.
This week we caught up with Catrin Young, from South Wales Goalball Club
How did you discover goalball?
I first discovered goalball at an Insport Series day in Cardiff. Kathryn from Goalball UK was so friendly and fun that I got hooked straight away. I’d never played such an accessible sport before. My first tournament was in Bristol, and it was really exciting and challenging.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood?
No not really before a match, but I do love listening to music.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
Not really, but I like to keep my eyeshades on my head all day for good luck.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
A pizza and something sugary!
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
Joe Roper – he’s a really nice guy and so inspiring.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
Drumming, skateboarding, swimming. I’m a big fan of Harry Potter. I love playing different instruments and composing music.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
Florida – I really want to visit the Harry Potter experience at University Studios. I’d also love to go to Hawaii as I love the beach, the sea and the sun.
