Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use our online platforms so the Goalball Family can get to know each other a bit better ahead of getting back on the court and playing our sport again!
This week we caught up with Dom Roper!
What club do you play for or coach?
Fen Tigers
How did you discover goalball?
My brother Dan moved to March after he finished at RNC and he needed to practice throwing balls so I started by passing the ball back to him.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
All sorts really. I like old and new music. Blink182, Greenday, Prodigy, Leftfield.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
No real superstitions but I can always be found laying out my kit neatly on my towel in the sports hall.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
Normally a KFC hits the spot but anything quick and tasty to refuel.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
As cheesy as it is, my brother Dan. His sheer passion for the sport, his determination and his constant push to get the best out of himself and those around him. He’s always willing to give anyone a hand.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I enjoy most sports but I’m an especially big fan of Formula 1 and boxing. I have lots of respect for Lewis Hamilton and Anthony Joshua.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
Japan – I have always admired the Japanese/Samurai peaceful, beautiful and tranquil lifestyle.
