Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, or anyone.
This week we caught up with Emma Tammaro!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for Northern Allstars in the Super League (Elite).
How did you discover goalball?
Just after losing my sight, I volunteered at a VI Sports Day in Hertfordshire – I wanted to join in but it was for Primary School children so I was too old! I then started going along to the Cambridge Dons before joining South Yorkshire in September 2016 when I moved to Sheffield for University.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I like everything from McFly to Stormzy but if I had to narrow it down, I suppose I would say ‘Pop Punk’.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
No, nothing significant – I just get on the court and play.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
I’m not too fussy – I’ll just eat whatever is available!
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
Caleb Nanevie and Anthony O’Keefe from South Yorkshire as I learnt so much from them.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I’m a PE teacher so I love all sports but especially football. I am a West Ham season ticket holder and used to play.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I would like to travel around Asia and experience all of the different cultures.
