Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use this opportunity where we have a bit more time on our hands to get to know you all a little bit better before getting back on the court!
This week we caught up with Karina Lang!
What club do you play for or coach?
Winchester Goalball Club
How did you discover goalball?
I first got involved after a have-a-go at the albinism conference, then Winchester held a ‘This Girl Can’ session which is what got me hooked on the sport and kept me coming back to the club!
Is there a particular song, artist, or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you are loving at the moment?
I love a bit of Firework by Katy Perry. My favourite artist would Mumford and Sons, I often listen to a Spotify playlist and sing along to all their songs!
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
No not particularly.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
Lasagne, chips, garlic bread, and salad… all the carbs!
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
That is a tough question… I would have to go with Adam Knott who has represented Great Britain and is a coach at Winchester. I see him regularly, so it is very easy to learns lots from him, and he is an easy guy to approach!
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I am big into making sourdough bread, which is something I learned during lockdown and now we don’t buy any other bread! I am also into Dungeons & Dragons which I love for the imagination, and you can lose hours playing this with your friends!
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
The Aztec Pyramids in Peru just because they look cool, and they have a lot of history surrounding them. They are also not easy to get to, so not many people have been!
