Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, or anyone.
This week we caught up with Klaudia Orzel!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for South Yorkshire.
How did you discover goalball?
I started playing when I was about 13 and attended a residential blind school in Poland. I then started playing for South Yorkshire in September 2015 when I was 17 and moved to England.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I like One Direction! ‘Story of my life’ is one of my favourite songs. I also really like ‘There’s nothing holding me back’ by Shawn Mendes.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
No, I’m quite chilled. I just try to think positively and not worry.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
I like a hot and spicy pizza.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
All of my teammates at South Yorkshire as they help me both on and off the court.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I like going climbing – indoors as well as outdoors to places like the Peak District. I also recently started playing VI tennis. Other than that, I like to visit my friends, watch films and listen to audiobooks. Crime stories are my favourite.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I would like to go to Mount Everest base camp and then, maybe, all the way to the summit!
