Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, or anyone

This week we caught up with Phoebe Clifton!

What club do you play for or coach?

I play for Winchester Goalball Club.

How did you discover goalball?

I had a go, at Winchester Goalball Club, in an Actionnaires taster session.

Is there a particular song, artist, or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?

On the way home I love to listen to some oldies but goldies that are upbeat. Queen songs are often played.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?

I think it’s important to have a good breakfast to keep me going.

Do you have a favourite post-match meal?

I think fish and chips would be up there, but I don’t stick to one post-match meal. I usually have a cheese and pickle sandwich as a tournament lunch.

Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?

Adam Knott because he introduced me to a sport which is inclusive and fun when I had hated sport in the past.

Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?

I sing and play the piano and love listening to podcasts and audiobooks.

Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?

I’d like to go to Finland when it’s been snowing because it has lots of trees and I love to wrap up warm and go for a walk in the cold.
