GB Men took part in the FEDC International Goalball Tournament this weekend (14-16 October 2022) in Madrid.
Despite it being a challenging tournament for the squad, there were a lot of opportunities to learn from the competing nations of Israel, Spain and Finland.
Faye Dale, Head Coach for GB Men and Talent Lead at Goalball UK said “Overall we had a tough competition, lots of learning and a couple of solid games to end the weekend with. The players and staff will now be working hard and focussing on the lead up to Europeans to ensure we bring our best performances to Portugal in November”
“On a positive note, GB Men did beat Spain in a thrilling game on Day 2. This was followed by a narrow defeat by Finland in the last game on Sunday with Finland scoring the last shot of the game to take it to 9-8.”
The squad finished fourth overall, with Israel taking first place, Finland second and Spain third.

Looking forwards
GB Men will next play at the IBSA Goalball European (Group B) Championships 12 – 20 November in Portugal. The European B Championships is a significant major competition for the Mens team for which they are preparing hard.
If successful, GB Men would secure promotion to the European A division, which gives the opportunity to qualify for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games through our region. The European A Championships take place next year.
