Every Thursday we put the spotlight on the people involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, supporters and more.
This week we caught up with Dani Dillon.
What is your role at Goalball UK/in the goalball world?
I am a Goalball UK referee. I am also a member of The Competition Committee and help with the Referee Course that Goalball UK deliver.
How did you discover goalball?
Through a player. I first got involved, as a coach, with Nottinghamshire Sheriffs Goalball Club.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I’m loving ‘My G’ by Aitch featuring Ed Sheehan at the moment.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
I always check my whistle especially now we are using electric ones!
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
It’s normally a burger or Mac and cheese with a gang of other Goalball UK officials.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
Not a player but Dina Murdie is the person in goalball I admire the most because of the commitment she has to the sport, to developing new people in refereeing and her infallible support to myself and others throughout my time working in the goalball world.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
Generally, my spare time consists of dog walking and a spot of baking!
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I would love to visit New Zealand – the scenery looks stunning with a mix of beaches and mountains. I want to add another skydive to my collection and skydive over the Franz Josef Glaciers.
