When and how did you get involved in goalball?
When I was 14, I was invited to a Paralympic Talent Identification day where I was weighed, measured and underwent fitness testing…I didn’t think anything would come of it as I knew they were testing hundreds of people at events like this up and down the country. But, to my surprise, I was invited back to what I thought was the next round of testing – but it turned out to be a GB Goalball training camp. I had never seen or heard of the sport before and I was instantly thrown in at the deep end, training with the GB Men’s and Women’s teams – but I just loved it! I’ve been part of the GB team ever since.
Career highlights
Certain games will probably always stand out in my mind – like knocking out the World Champions Russia in the Quarter finals of the European Championships in 2019 – or beating the Paralympic Champions Turkey in the 2021 European Championships – but the stand out experience will always be competing in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. It was an indescribably special few weeks which have made such a lasting impression on me, that I’m still here, more than a decade later, hungry to compete at another.
Do you have one piece of advice for an aspiring athlete?
Always be open to advice and trying new things – you can always get better but that will only happen if you’re prepared to learn and try new things.
