Charity Spinathon
We are excited to announce that our very own Chris Colbert is organising a charity Spinathon!
Taking place on Saturday 2nd December between 12 and 6pm we are asking our members to join us on the bikes to raise money for the charity Goalball UK – Chris’s chosen charity.
The Programme
There will be five consecutive 45-minute spin classes, with fifteen-minute breaks in between, led by our fantastic instructors.
The programme is as follows:
Time | Class | Type | |
---|---|---|---|
Class 1 | 12 - 12:45 | Get on the Bike | Warm up |
Class 2 | 13 - 13:45 | Get into the Groove | Hill climb |
Class 3 | 14 - 14:45 | Get on the Road | Flat road cycle |
Class 4 | 15 - 15:45 | Get into the Hills | Flat road hill into hill climb |
Class 5 | 16 - 16:45 | Get to the Bar | Recovery ride |
Each class will be suitable for beginners right through to experienced cyclists with levels available for all. The programme is designed for those doing all 5 classes but is also great for anyone who wants to join us for 1 or 2. During the classes water will be provided.
How to Get Involved
For those looking for that ultimate Spinathon experience we have a limited number of bikes available for members to join us for all 5 classes! This is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, be taught by 5 highly experienced instructors with 5 different class types and raise lots of money for charity at the same time.
There are just 5 “Ultimate Spin” packages available at a cost of £60, with every penny going to the charity. As well as experiencing the spin classes themselves, members who sign up for this package also receive:
- Chance to select your bike number and position.
- Drinks and refreshments such as electrolytes throughout the Spinathon
- A Goalball UK goodie bag
If you would like to join in but can’t commit to 5 hours, you can join us for 1, 2, or 3 classes at £10 per class. We would very much like to fill every bike so whatever time (and energy!!) you can spare is greatly appreciated.
Booking
To book, sign up at Retford Leisure Centre reception or email charlotte.rooke@goalballuk.com with your name, and which of the above classes you would like to book. We will then be in touch to take your payment and confirm your place. Places are booked on a first come, first served basis.
Why we are doing it?
Chris’s chosen charity is Goalball UK. Blind since birth, Chris has been involved and playing goalball since he was 16. Did you know he now trains with the GB Men senior squad?
Goalball UK exists to transform the lives of blind and partially sighted people in the UK. With just over 700 members, it forms part of the UK’s largest disability cohort of 360,000 registered blind and visually impaired adults and children in the UK.
A registered charity, Goalball UK is as unique as its members.
Goalball is an exciting Paralympic, indoor, 3-aside team sport, of attack and defend – with a unique twist!
The sport was originally devised in 1946 to help rehabilitate soldiers who had lost their sight during the war. It has been played throughout the world ever since, at the highest level, by people who are blind or partially sighted. The idea of the game is to score goals by bowling the ball along the floor, past the opposing team.
Additional Fundraising
For those riders taking part, we would also encourage you to ask friends and family to sponsor you and we can provide a sponsorship form for you should you wish. Further details will be shared when you book your bike.
Instructors are giving their time for free to help us raise as much as possible (a great BIG thank you to them!) and the Club is covering all other costs, so all money made will go directly to the charities.
We will also have cakes and additional refreshments on the day to help raise money.
Spinathon T-Shirt
A special Charity Spinathon t-shirt will be designed for the event, as a memento of the day and our collective achievement.
The t-shirt will be available to buy for £20 all profits going to the charity. If you want to buy one, please email to charlotte.rooke@goalballuk.com to place your order and provide your size.
Please note that for your t-shirt to be ready for the event, you will need to order and provide your size by latest 10th November. If you miss the order deadline, we will have some t-shirts available on the event date for you to choose from but can’t guarantee your preferred size will be available.
Can’t make it?
If you can’t make it to the event but would still like to contribute, you can easily do so by donating to Goalball UK. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of the individuals we support. So, why wait? Donate now and make a difference today!
The Charity Spin Challenge is more than just a fitness event. It’s an opportunity to get active, have fun, and contribute to a cause that’s making a real difference in people’s lives.
So, grab your cycling gear, mark your calendars for the 2nd of December, and get ready to spin for a cause!
To find out more, or if you have any questions, please do speak to the reception team, Chris, your instructor, or email Charlotte via charlotte.rooke@goalballuk.com
