So, it finally happened – after 18 months competitive goalball finally returned to our shores. Last weekend, the Intermediate North Matchday 1 at English Institute of Sport, Sheffield took place and it was like we were never away! Blackburn, Fen Tigers, Lancashire Lions, Mersey Sharks, and Scarborough Panthers took to the court for a day of exhilarating action.

There were so many brilliant moments, but just some of our favourite highlights included:

      • A nail-biting showdown between Scarborough Panthers and Mersey Sharks, that ended with Scarborough narrowly edging it 10-9.
      • Mersey Sharks continued the trend of close affairs in a rousing 11-11 draw with Lancashire Lions.
      • A resilient Blackburn lost 10-18 to Lancashire Lions despite frequently pegging their opponents back, but it was the Lions experience that shone through in the end.

Reanne Racktoo of Blackburn Goalball Club was awarded ‘Player of the Day’ overcoming countless heroic performances! Congratulations Reanne!
