We are particularly interested in hearing from people who can bring senior experience in:

  • finance and financial oversight; or
  • income generation and charity fundraising.

These are voluntary roles offering the opportunity to use your experience to strengthen Goalball UK, support the growth of our sport and make a real difference to blind and partially sighted people.

About the roles

Our Non-Executive Directors provide independent oversight and constructive challenge, working with fellow trustees and the senior leadership team to support good decision-making and effective governance.

You will contribute to our strategic direction, risk management and organisational performance, while helping us safeguard the interests of our players, members, staff, funders and wider goalball community.

We are recruiting people with experience in one of two areas.

Finance and financial oversight

We are looking for someone with senior financial experience who can scrutinise accounts, budgets and cashflow forecasts, and challenge and gain assurance from our external auditors and Chief Financial Officer.

Your independent judgement will help us safeguard our financial sustainability, including oversight of cash, reserves and going concern.

Experience of the charity or grant-funded sector and risk management would be welcome but is not essential.

Income generation and charity fundraising

We are also looking for someone who can help shape our approach to attracting funding, building donor and partner relationships, and developing sustainable sources of income.

Your contribution will help us grow the sport and continue delivering our charitable purpose.

Who we are looking for

You will bring independence, sound judgement and the ability to think strategically.

You will also have:

  • experience of leading and influencing others;
  • strong communication and relationship-building skills;
  • the ability to work constructively and collaboratively;
  • a genuine commitment to Goalball UK’s mission and values; and
  • experience in finance and auditing, or income generation and charity fundraising.

Previous experience as a Non-Executive Director or trustee would be helpful, but it is not essential.

We also welcome experience or knowledge of disability sport, the not-for-profit sector, marketing and communications, social value or environmental matters. Lived experience that can strengthen the Board’s understanding and provide an authentic voice is also valued.

About Goalball UK

Goalball UK is the National Governing Body for the Paralympic sport of goalball in the UK. We oversee the sport from grassroots participation through to the Paralympics and currently have more than 30 active clubs across the country.

Goalball is a fast-paced, three-a-side team sport. Players aim to score by throwing a weighted ball containing bells towards their opponents’ goal. All players wear blackout eyeshades so that vision levels are equal.

The sport helps blind and partially sighted people build independence and well-being while providing an inclusive community and a strong sense of belonging.

Time commitment

The anticipated commitment includes:

  • approximately four Board meetings each year, held through a mixture of in-person and remote meetings;
  • relevant committee and sub-committee meetings;
  • attendance at other events where agreed; and
  • sufficient time to review, comment on and, where necessary, prepare Board papers.

The roles are voluntary trusteeships. Appropriate out-of-pocket expenses will be paid.
