GB Men and Women reach quarter finals at IBSA European Championships

Today, 13 December 2023, both GB Men and Women goalball squads progressed through the group stages of the IBSA European Championships  2023 to reach the quarter finals which take place on Thursday 14th December. 

GB Men finished third in their group after a strong victory over Greece secured their place when the game ended 5 – 2 in our favour. The starting line-up of Dan Roper, Matt Loftus and Josh Murphy proved a winning formula with Roper scoring 4 of the goals and a 5th coming from Caleb Nanevie. 

For GB Women, who finish second in their group, a solid 7-1 win against Ukraine ensured they remained in the top three. Meme Robertson delivered 4 goals with Georgie Bullen, Antonia Bunyan and Sarah Leiter also scoring a goal each to finish 7-1. 

Speaking from Montenegro, Gary Fraser High-Performance Lead at Goalball UK said “It is a fantastic achievement having both our teams progressing to the knockout stage of the Championships. Navigating the group stages is always the first objective at theses major events and they have done that successfully. Both teams won their final group fixtures, and we hope to keep the momentum going into the quarter finals tomorrow.“ 

The quarter finals take place on Thursday 14th December as follows:
