Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use our online platforms so the Goalball Family can get to know each other a bit better ahead of getting back on the court and playing our sport again!
This week we caught up with Alex Ulysses!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for Croysutt Warriors.
How did you discover goalball?
I properly discovered goalball at the BBS Young Leaders Camp in April 2019.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I have a motivational playlist which has all kinds of different songs that put me in the mood when going to and during tournaments.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
The night before I make sure I have all my clothes out ready for me to put on straight away in the morning.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
McDonalds is my favourite main post match meal after a long, fun day of goalball!
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
There’s a few that I admire who are from my club: Jack Peters as he’s always motivational, determined and gives good advice on how and what to do to improve during training; Sue Williams as we always crack up jokes during the sessions which keeps me in a good mood when playing on and off court when at training and tournaments; and of course the rest of the Croysutt team as they are basically like family and we work extremely well as a team!
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I love playing basketball and have done so since I was a kid. I’ve also recently found a new interest in netball as Superleague Club London Pulse are adapting the sport for visually impaired people. I also love playing bass guitar and singing.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I want to go visit Cyprus again because as a kid I used to swim with dolphins when we went there and I loved it! So, I really want to start doing that again during the summer holidays.
