Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, or anyone.
This week we caught up with Aure Aflalo!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for, and sometimes coach, for the Cambridge Dons.
How did you discover goalball?
I discovered goalball through Camsight, the sight loss charity in Cambridge, just after starting university.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
I don’t really listen to anything before a tournament, usually, we spend the time in the car or train chatting away or playing cards!
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
I like to triple-check where everyone is and that everyone has water. We always like to have a pre-game team huddle and chat as well.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
Usually, after a day at a tournament, we’ll have a meal out with the team on the way home, often we end up at Nando’s.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
That would have to be Sarah Leiter! She’s one of the first people I met within the goalball bubble. Her dedication to the sport both at the high level and within the club as a coach and committee member is amazing!
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I like to catch up with friends for a meal, a quiz or a good movie!
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
That’s a hard one, I love to travel. At the moment I’m thinking Iceland would be a really nice place to visit.
