Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, or anyone

This week we caught up with Charlie Brown!

What club do you play for or coach?

I play at Novice level for West Yorkshire.

How did you discover goalball?

I used to go to the Leeds Actionnaires Club and Kathryn Fielding came along one week to deliver a taster session. I really enjoyed it, so she invited me to join the West Yorkshire Goalball Club. That was back in October 2016, and I have been playing ever since.

Is there a particular song, artist, or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?

Before a tournament I like listening to something upbeat and fast but at other times I like listening to a bit of everything.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?

I like watching videos of GB in my spare time to get some top tips and see what I need to do to improve my game.

Do you have a favourite post-match meal?

Anything that’s filling as I’m usually very hungry!

Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?

Phil Green. He has been at the club since I started and always helps me and everyone else.

Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?

I am a big Leeds United fan and go to watch them play when I can. I also go to a social club on a Friday night hosted by the Leeds United Foundation. We do lots of different activities including playing sports such as football, basketball and kurling.

Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?

I would like to travel around South America – e.g., Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, etc. – to learn more about the culture as I expect it is very different to Leeds!
