It’s well known that lots of us in the #GoalballFamily love to spend our Saturday mornings walking, jogging or running 5k’s at parkrun. Some have decided to go that bit further though.

Goalball UK Ambassador, Naqi Rizvi (London Elephants Goalball Club) completed the London Marathon on Sunday 3rd October. As did Louise Simpson (South Yorkshire Goalball Club). This was actually her 10th marathon in 2021 with more planned for next year!

Steve Cox (Goalball UK Operations Manager) also completed the London Marathon as well as the Berlin Marathon on Sunday 26th September. On the same day, Becky Ashworth (GB Women’s Assistant Coach), Alex Cockerham (Goalball UK Project Officer) and Anthony O’Keefe (South Yorkshire Goalball Club) completed the Sheffield Half Marathon. Anthony also completed the Liverpool Half Marathon on Sunday 24th October along with Kathryn Fielding (Goalball UK Development Officer).

Meanwhile, Lexi Hibberd (West Yorkshire Goalball Club) completed the Race for Life Leeds Pretty Muddy 5k on Sunday 17th October. This involved negotiating her way through, round, up and over lots of different obstacles as well as lots of mud!

If you are interested in getting into running – be it just to build up your fitness or to participate in events – a reminder that England Athletics and British Blind Sport have the ‘Find a Guide’ database. They also have some Sight Loss Awareness and Guide Running workshops coming up.

Finally, it was great to hear Hannah Webber (Nottinghamshire Sheriffs Goalball Club) and Sarah Stephenson-Hunter talking about their running relationship on the RunPod.
