Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
We want to use this opportunity where we have a bit more time on our hands to get to know you all a little bit better.
This week we caught up with Danny Reeves.
Which club do you play for?
I play for Birmingham Barbarians.
How did you discover goalball?
My P.E teacher from mainstream education told me about it, but I didn’t start playing until I attended New College Worcester.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you are loving at the moment?
I normally listen to Got Your Six or This Is My War, both are by Five Finger Death Punch. Sometimes I listen to Hold On by Skepta for motivation.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
Personally I spend pre-match talks convincing myself I’m stepping on to a battle field. This just works me up more and allows me to focus on my opposition more.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
McDonald’s all the way!
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
Joshua Murphy, because I’ve seen him go from novice to elite and have witnessed all his hard work. I personally find it inspirational.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I do judo, play pool, write fantasy, poetry & song lyrics and practice the guitar. I also run Dungeon and Dragons sessions as well as play several trading card games.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I’d love to go to Japan and learn about their Feudal Era as it greatly interests me!
