Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
This week we caught up with Harry Bainbridge!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for Nottinghamshire Sheriffs.
How did you discover goalball?
Around five years ago, I attended a taster session which was organised by Sight Support Derbyshire and delivered by Goalball UK.
Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
There aren’t really any songs that I listen to especially before a match but at the moment I am enjoying listening to The Weeknd.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
Before a game I usually just like to be warmed up and ready to play goalball.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
My favourite meal is probably anything that includes pasta but usually on the way back from a tournament we stop at a service station and get things like Burger King.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
I feel like a lot of people inspire me and help me improve as a player in my club and also on the #FindTheNext Goalball Academy.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I enjoy hiking in the countryside and meeting up with friends.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I would love to go to Italy as it seems like a nice place to be and it has really good weather. Iceland also sounds good since the landscape is so different to anywhere else I have been.
