This week we caught up with James Hill!

What club do you play for or coach?

I play for Croysutt Warriors.

How did you discover goalball?

Just simply through a Google search of ‘VI sports in Croydon’! I went along to a training session and then made my debut at Novice level at a tournament in Peterborough in November 2019. I have now moved up to Intermediate level.

Is there a particular song, artist or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?

I like Excision and Monolord.

Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?

No, I just go out and play to win!

Do you have a favourite post-match meal?

Nandos!

Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?

For me, it’s more the collective community of players who refuse to let their lack of sight define them or prevent them from playing.

Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?

I enjoy playing football although I’m struggling to see now. I also like playing pool and going tenpin bowling as well as spending time with my children and DJing.

Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?

The moon as I’d like to see space. Also, Japan and east Asia as I visited Japan for my 30th birthday and would like to explore further.
