Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials, coaches, or anyone!
This week we caught up with Kate Exley!
What club do you play for or coach?
I play for Winchester Goalball Club.
How did you discover goalball?
My friend Phoebe brought me along for a sighted-friend sort of session and they asked me back!
Is there a particular song, artist, or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving at the moment?
Queen. After every tournament, regardless of what place we got, we jam out to “We are the Champions” on the way home. Then it usually devolves into songs from musicals…
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
I guess I do. I must have a pasta pot during the tournament for lunch.
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
We go to the fish and chip shop, and I usually have sausage and chips.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
Rosie Howell has done so many extra sessions for some of us and she always keeps her cool.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I do a bunch of things: D&D, video games, knitting, writing, cycling…
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
Probably somewhere cold like Finland. I love forests and snow, so it seems like it’d suit me.
