Each Thursday we want to put the spotlight on a person involved with goalball – from players, officials to coaches, or anyone!
This week we caught up with Ruby Hudson!
What club do you play for or coach?
I am a member of Scarborough Goalball Club, and I am part of the Goalball UK Children and Young People Social Group.
How did you discover goalball?
My brother and sister, Stuart and Chelsea, play as well as my dad so I started going along to tournaments to support them. I have played a couple of times but usually help goal judge or on the table. I have recently completed the online Goalball UK ‘Introduction to Officiating’ course and then at the Summer Camp successfully qualified as a Goalball UK official. I am looking forward to refereeing at tournaments next season.
Is there a particular song, artist, or genre that you listen to before a tournament to get in the mood? Or anything you’re loving now?
I like pop music – I’m liking Olivia Rodrigo at the moment.
Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
Not yet but maybe after I have officiated at a few tournaments I might have!
Do you have a favourite post-match meal?
I like BBQ Chicken pizza.
Which goalball player do you admire the most and why?
Dina Murdie as she is a fantastic role model for all officials.
Outside of goalball, what other hobbies/sports do you do?
I like playing football and I support Nottingham Forest. I also like gymnastics. Other than that, I just like hanging out with my friends and relaxing.
Finally, what place, anywhere in the world, is on your bucket list to visit and why?
I’d really like to go to Australia to visit my Grandma.
