GB Men secure place in IBSA European A Division

On the final day of the IBSA Goalball European Championships GB’s Men beat Greece to secure their place in the A Division. A huge accomplishment for this group as it is the first time that they have remained in the As for two consecutive cycles.

The game was incredibly tense due to the pressure of the situation but GB’s Men handled it with a calm professionalism to win 5 – 3. Josh Murphy who has played a brilliant tournament scored a hat trick of 3 goals with Dan Roper adding a further 2. Matt Loftus defended some serious attempts from the Greece Men in the centre but GB held their own til the final whistle.

Speaking about the result, Mark Winder, CEO at Goalball UK said “To retain our position in the European As is a tremendous achievement. It allows us to build from a stable platform towards the next cycle culminating in Los Angeles. I am very proud of the players their progress continues which is immensely pleasing. I would also like to thank our High Performance Lead, all the coaches and support staff. They all work work incredibly hard.”

The Men’s competition is now finished but our Women go on to play Greece for the bronze medal position at 1:00pm on Saturday 16th December 2023.

Thank you to our supporters UK Sport, Perfection Travel and Events Ltd, Direct Business Group, PE Office, Northern Accountants Ltd and SOL PV Group.
