Matchday 2 of the Intermediate North League kicked off the run up to Christmas in the 2021/2022 Competition Structure, check out what happened below!
With the run up to Christmas officially on, goalball action has been coming thick and fast recently, with three Matchday’s in three weekends! First up was Matchday 2 of the Intermediate North League on Saturday 27th November at St Peters School, Clifton, York. 4 teams, 6 fixtures and 88 goals followed!
Storm Arwen led to the cancellation of sport up and down the UK, with growing appreciation for goalball being an indoor sport! Despite this, the Matchday was affected with Nottinghamshire Sheriffs and Scarborough Panthers being unable to attend due to the weather conditions.
The Matchday continued with Fen Tigers looking to retain their place at the top of the table. It got off to a great start with the Tigers overcoming Kirklees (16-7)! It was West Yorkshire who handed Fen Tigers only their second loss of the season beating them 9-5. West Yorkshire went on to complete their first Matchday unbeaten with following victories over York St John (12-2) and Kirklees (9-2). Scoring an impressive 30 goals across their three fixtures!
Matchday 2 also saw the return to competitive action for Kirklees since 2015, with the West Yorkshire based outfit picking up one win (13-3 versus York St John) and losing twice. Moving onto another first, York St John competed in their first Matchday of the season and will look to improve on their performances losing their three fixtures at Matchday 3, 12th–13thMarch 2022 at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
Congratulations to Player of the Day Adbul Eneser of York St John, making the trip in difficult conditions to York to compete for his team from Glasgow, Scotland!
