GOALBALL ‘have a go’ session at Bournemouth University

The session on Saturday 6th September was very exciting. A large group of DBA members from Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth came along as well as a few visually impaired people new to DBA.

Alex and Andy from Goalball UK did all the hard work of setting up the goals and marking out the court and then ran some warm-up exercises. They introduced everyone to the basics of Goalball giving clear instructions and offering lots of encouragement.

Tom, coach from Winchester Goalball, together with Kate, an experienced player, also made the trip and supported us enthusiastically.

Everyone had several opportunities to take part in short games getting used to throwing the ball and themselves around the court.

Everyone enjoyed the experience including our volunteers who watched and cheered as goals were scored.

We are extremely keen to continue with Goalball coaching and the next session will be held commencing at1pm on Saturday 4th October at Victoria School sports hall sports hall, Lindsay Road, Poole.

Goalball UK are supporting DBA to establish a team in Dorset with the aim of promoting the sport and expanding their competitive base in the south of England.

I would like to thank our members and volunteers as well as Goalball UK and Winchester Goalball for supporting the event and making it so successful.

Anyone who is interested in taking part in Goalball as a player or as a supporting volunteer please contact Judy on 07748 212009 or by email; judybannon@dorsetblind.org.uk or phone DBA on 01202 712865.
