Nottingham Universities compete in first ever Goalball Varsity match!

On Tuesday 26th May, University of Nottingham’s Jubilee sports centre played host to the first ever Goalball varsity match between 2 universities, these being University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University. The match was unofficially part of the Nottingham Universities varsity series.

Nottingham Trent University were represented by Graham Bowe, Bilal Hussain, Shamaila Kauser and Abbas Zaib. Competing for University of Nottingham were Liam Mackin, Molly O’Brien, Emma Poynton-Smith, Sarah Stephenson and Sophie Unwin.

The game was well contested, with fantastic Goalball being played by both teams. The game ended with Nottingham Trent University triumphing over their rivals University of Nottingham 17 – 10.

All players received trophies for their efforts, with Sarah Stephenson being chosen as the best female player and receiving a “This Girl Can” jumper.

Goalball UK would like to say a huge well done to all those that took part in the game and to Hannah Webber for organising the event. We hope this is the first of many University varsity matches to come!
