In 14 weeks, 15 tandems will be setting off from Morecambe in Lancashire to cycle the 170 Coast to Coast miles to Bridlington in East Yorkshire, to raise money for Goalball UK.
Each week we will introduce you to 2 of the participants:
Kelsey plays for Winchester Goalball Club. After some excellent performances at Novice level, he has recently made his debut at Intermediate level. He enjoys playing Goalball as he says that it is a fun and friendly sport with a great community and social atmosphere. Away from Goalball, he is a student at Watford Boys Grammar School and likes reading, music and technology. At age 13, he is the youngest person taking part in the challenge.
Christine is a member of South Yorkshire Goalball Club. She first got involved in the sport when she volunteered at the 2010 World Championships that were held in Sheffield. Since then she has qualified as a coach and a referee, regularly officiating at Goalball UK tournaments, and was a Goal Judge at the London 2012 Paralympics. She enjoys travelling and has been a sighted guide on holidays in China, Vietnam, Brazil and Cape Town. She is also a keen cyclist, having previously cycled the ‘Way of the Roses’ as well as Lands End to John O’Groats. She works part time as a lifeguard at Hathersage open air swimming pool where she recently completed the 5k Swimathon. She also enjoys Yoga and walking her dog Alfie.
